Disasters in Zones 33/34, like hurricanes, earthquakes, and fires are devastating realities. When disaster strikes, Rotarians are ready to assist. If you are in an affected area, your first step should be to contact your club and district leadership for immediate action.
Those outside affected areas can help by donating funds. Together, we make a difference.
Rotary clubs can play a crucial role in assisting the affected areas. By leveraging their extensive network and resources, Rotary clubs can mobilize quickly to provide immediate humanitarian aid, including food, clean water, and medical supplies. Additionally, Rotary members can volunteer their skills for rebuilding efforts, help coordinate disaster response activities, and support long-term recovery projects.
Update on our response to Hurricane Helene and Milton. In addition to the $100,000 matching gift grant to the Rotary Zone 33/34 Disaster Relief Fund, ShelterBox USA is providing extensive emergency supplies. These include 600 solar lights with battery power banks, 200 ShelterBox bags for supply distribution, 250 zero-degree thermal sleeping bags, 110 portable cook stoves, 600 water filters, and 800 warm comforters through our partnerships with Amazon Disaster and Berkshire Blankets. These critical resources will help ensure affected families have reliable access to light, clean water, cooking capabilities, and warmth during this challenging time. This comprehensive response demonstrates the strength of collaboration between ShelterBox USA, Rotary, and corporate partners in supporting communities in crisis.

Hurricane Beryl (July 2024)
District 7030
Hurricane Beryl devastated Carriacou and Petit Martinique, destroying 98% of buildings. In Grenada, the northern region suffered significant roof damage and agricultural loss. The populations of Carriacou (6,061) and Petit Martinique (900) are severely affected, with many in shelters. Nine deaths have been reported. Carriacou’s vegetation is nearly gone, mangroves are destroyed, and boats and marinas are damaged. The electrical grid and communication systems are severely disrupted.
As of July 7, Carriacou has food, water, and tarpaulins for short-term needs, and a temporary communication system is operational. Cleanup efforts are underway. Reconstruction of infrastructure and housing is the next critical phase, alongside ensuring continuous supplies of food, water, hygiene kits, first aid kits, and tarpaulins. Repairing buildings and fully restoring the communication system are essential.
The L’Esterre Lauriston Development Committee, soon to be named Rotary Community Corp, will assist Rotary efforts in Carriacou and Petit Martinique. The nine-member team includes two former Rotarians.
We appeal for donations to the Disaster Network of Assistance Rotary Action Group, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to immediate and effective disaster relief in Rotary District 7030, led by District Governor Debbie Roopchand. Your contributions will fund emergency supplies, rebuilding efforts, and long-term recovery programs. Every dollar makes a significant difference. Together, we can help these resilient communities rebuild stronger than ever. Please donate today to support the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Thank you for your compassion and support.
