Disasters in Zones 33/34, like hurricanes, earthquakes, and fires are devastating realities. When disaster strikes, Rotarians are ready to assist. If you are in an affected area, your first step should be to contact your club and district leadership for immediate action.

Those outside affected areas can help by donating funds. Together, we make a difference.

Rotary clubs can play a crucial role in assisting the affected areas. By leveraging their extensive network and resources, Rotary clubs can mobilize quickly to provide immediate humanitarian aid, including food, clean water, and medical supplies. Additionally, Rotary members can volunteer their skills for rebuilding efforts, help coordinate disaster response activities, and support long-term recovery projects.

Witness the incredible spirit of service as Rotarians from District 7690 team up with ShelterBox to support families impacted by Hurricane Helene. This 2-minute video showcases their dedication, preparing and distributing essential relief packs to those who lost their homes. Through teamwork and compassion, these volunteers demonstrate the heart of Rotary in action. As Rotary International President, Stephanie Urchick,  notes, it’s the people who show up and help that make Rotary so special. Watch this inspiring story of hope, resilience, and community coming together to make a difference.

Hurricane Beryl (July 2024)

Hurricane Beryl, a powerful tropical cyclone, had a significant impact on the Caribbean, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Originating in early July, Beryl intensified rapidly, bringing with it torrential rains, fierce winds, and widespread flooding.

District 7030

Hurricane Beryl devastated Carriacou and Petit Martinique, destroying 98% of buildings. In Grenada, the northern region suffered significant roof damage and agricultural loss. The populations of Carriacou (6,061) and Petit Martinique (900) are severely affected, with many in shelters. Nine deaths have been reported. Carriacou’s vegetation is nearly gone, mangroves are destroyed, and boats and marinas are damaged. The electrical grid and communication systems are severely disrupted.

As of July 7, Carriacou has food, water, and tarpaulins for short-term needs, and a temporary communication system is operational. Cleanup efforts are underway. Reconstruction of infrastructure and housing is the next critical phase, alongside ensuring continuous supplies of food, water, hygiene kits, first aid kits, and tarpaulins. Repairing buildings and fully restoring the communication system are essential.

The L’Esterre Lauriston Development Committee, soon to be named Rotary Community Corp, will assist Rotary efforts in Carriacou and Petit Martinique. The nine-member team includes two former Rotarians.

We appeal for donations to the Disaster Network of Assistance Rotary Action Group, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to immediate and effective disaster relief in Rotary District 7030, led by District Governor Debbie Roopchand. Your contributions will fund emergency supplies, rebuilding efforts, and long-term recovery programs. Every dollar makes a significant difference. Together, we can help these resilient communities rebuild stronger than ever. Please donate today to support the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Thank you for your compassion and support.

District 7020

Hurricane Beryl caused significant damage to the southern areas of Jamaica. There has not been a complete assessment reported of those areas. That part of the island is also known as Jamaica’s bread basket where much of the island’s fruits and vegetables come from that region. Any damage in this region will have a major impact.

Other areas of Jamaica incurred peripheral damages such as light poles, trees, roofs, signages, etc. Many of these areas are still awaiting water and light. However, the clean-up process has begun.

If you can and wish to help, please use the District 7020 Hurricane Relief link/button to make your 501(c)(3) approved donation via the Disaster Network of Assistance Rotary Action Group Inc. District Governor Dominique Bazin and the District 7020 Disaster team will ensure it is put to good use.
