NID trip to India planned

DG 6970 Cynde Covington will lead a team of Rotarians, spouses and guests in January or February 2011 to India on an NID. The following information describes this opportunity for Rotarians, spouses, guests and non Rotarians.

A team from ROTARY DISTRICT 6970 will lead a group of Rotarians from around the world on a trip to India to participate in one of the country's National Immunization Days, when 180 million children throughout the country will receive the polio immunization over the course of 4-5 days.

PRELIMINARY itinerary:
Day 1-2      Fly to Delhi
Day 3         Visit World Health Organization & Rotary PolioPlus offices in Delhi
Day 4         Travel to Chandigarh, Rotary family homestays
Day 5         NID Booth Day, Rotary family homestays
Day 6         NID Mop-up Day, Rotary family homestays
Day 7         NID Mop-up Day, Chandigarh Rotary Club project visits, Rotary family homestays
Day 8         Travel to Delhi, visit sites in Delhi
Day 9         Visit St. Stephen's Hospital Polio Corrective Ward & Akshay Pratishtan - integrated abilities school
Day 10       Travel to Agra, visit Red Fort
Day 11       Visit Taj Mahal
Day 12       Early Departures home from Delhi

Final dates will be selected in September/October when the India government announces the official National Immunization Day dates for the country.

The price will be approximately $3,500, including air fare (which you will book on your own), ground transportation, 4-5 star hotel accommodations, some meals and sightseeing excursions.

You do not have to be a Rotarian to join the NID trip. Friends and family are welcome. Please share the news of the Zone 34 January/February 2011 NID with anyone you think might be interested.  We are expecting 40 participants from around the world.  Going on an NID trip is truly a fabulous and life-enriching experience and I hope you will decide to join us!  To receive regular updates about how you can participate, send an e-mail to:

Going on an NID also gives you the chance to change the lives of the Rotarians in your Clubs and District.  Involvement in Rotary gives ordinary Rotarians extraordinary opportunities to make a real difference in the world we live in.  This trip is just such an experience!
